Which dress to wear? - 1-

My oldest friend - since second grade - is getting married.
Little more than a week before I'm due to fly over, I am still to make my mind as to what to wear. I'll have no function whatsoever at the ceremony, thus no special importance as a guest, but in homage to a friendship that has lasted two decades now, I would like to make an effort.
Having said that, I will mention that the environment will hold zero interest  for vintage and my choice of dress will be probably regarded as old fashioned at the very best. Which is ok :)

I need to choose 1 out of 3 possibilities, and shall be asking for your opinions in the process (will do separate entries on the blog for the other two outfit choices). My mum and sister need plenty of visuals to assess the matter, and this is one way of doing it.

Here is my first choice, and the dress I've had in mind for quite a while. I'll admit this is the easy, fuss free option.

It consists of a beige lace overlay on top of a pale pink slip, with puffy sleeves and a nice detail of twenty or so, transparent, cut glass buttons. Sweet and feminine, a typical mid to late 1930's dress that screams garden party while the lace makes it quite wedding minded.

Pros:

- suitable style for a wedding, would take me from church to the afternoon and early evening reception without problem;

- great shape for me ( thinks me);

- easy to wear, I won't be at all self conscious, this dress feels natural to me, I'll forget pretty soon  that I have it on;

- easy to walk and dance in;

- very easy to pack, takes little room in the suitcase and it's also very easy to care for once at destination, no stress involved;

- fairly easy to style hair to go with the dress/period (pic below is NOT an example of this), although sometimes it can look stupid, and yes, matronly.

(you can see the lace detail better here, also the colour is more accurate)

Cons:

- is there a danger this may be considered a bit too "bridal"?

- a little bit of TLC is  needed in the midriff  section, as the dress is missing the belt and one button;

- husband says  it makes me look older...

- the colour really is shitty on me (I should consider dyeing this if possible, but that's an option for the future, not this event); I've tried to break the colour in with green accessories, but the shoes were a bit heavy and the purse terrible - failing this I had little choice but to return to accessories that fit in with the style of the dress but unfortunately blend in colour wise, so it's all a sea of beige...oh dear, this may well be a deal breaker.

I shall be awaiting your wise words.

Ruffles, frills, and other frivolous treatments - Part I - The jabot

I gushed about them in my previous post. Now it's time to put one's money where their mouth is. Speaking of which, I have 2 jabots (only one pictured, as the second needs buttoning to a top that I am yet to acquire - yeah, I shop like that, putting the cart before the horse). And before you ask, no, I did not try a Prince impersonation, although I evidently share the 80's obsession with this little (but oh so flamboyant!) piece of attire.
I picked this 1930s one on Etsy and I am wearing it here with a vintage Bebe jacket tailored to mimic a riding coat, therefore creating a nice nipped in silhouette with a pretty vent at the back. But instead of pairing them with jodhpurs, I thought I'd try a skirt instead.

 Jabots were very popular in the 30s and 40s. Here is a gorgeous example of a crocheted blouse with an attached jabot detail. The pattern available for purchase from The Cemetarian. I wish I could crochet, this blouse makes me swoon! Ain't that absolute perfection?...

However, if your skills stretch no further than mine, don't despair. Nice detachable jabots, which you can wear with jackets and cardigans or attach to plain blouses, always make their apparition on Etsy and Ebay for reasonable amounts of money, like this one that sold recently:

They give you versatility and also convenience when it comes to washing. And of course, they are girly and frilly and over the top. What's not to love about them?

Lace baby

It wasn't really hot enough to wear this, but I couldn't resist showing off one of my latest purchases, from lovely 1940sweetheart on Etsy.
I bought it with the money I had from selling the lace coat I posted here a little while ago. So lace lead to more lace :), in proper lace junkie fashion. Because it has to be said, along with velvet, crochet & knit, lace is one of my biggest vintage fashion crushes.
I love you pretty dress!
Now I need things to pair it with, preferably picking up the bright accents on the lace, and I'm thinking red or green. I'm doing well here I think with my snake skin (moc) Poetic Licence shoes.
I never said to you how much I like this brand, I do have several shoes from them as they are so much fun, from the designs to the packaging!
But my accessorizing stops there, and I need a bag and a cardigan, to prevent unwanted chills. See? Not matter how much one is buying, it's just never enough! :) So, if you'd like to help me and suggest things, do send a link!
